As the holiday season approaches, many Canadians are facing increased mental health challenges. Approximately 52 per cent of individuals struggle with their mental health during this time of year, according to Statistics Canada.
CMHA Kelowna is launching its Hope for the Holidays campaign to ensure that everyone in the community has access to the care and support they need. “This is a season that can bring a lot of joy, but it can also bring an increase of stress, anxiety, depression, and isolation,” says Mike Gawliuk, CEO.
Recent studies indicate a significant decline in overall mental health, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. “When we look at the results of a national report, it’s clear that mental health in Canada is three times worse than before the pandemic,” Gawliuk adds.
To address this growing crisis, CMHA Kelowna is calling on the community to support its Hope for the Holidays campaign. “By fostering connection and generosity, we can make the season brighter for everyone,” Gawliuk says.
Due to recent postal service disruptions, CMHA Kelowna encourages supporters to donate online, by phone at (250) 861-3644, or in person at 504 Sutherland Avenue.
