Developers looking to build in West Kelowna may want to get their applications into city hall soon.
At its Tuesday (July 26) meeting, Chief Administrative Officer Paul Gipps told council that the province has approved its new Development Cost Charges (DCC) bylaw.
“I’m saying this out loud so that everybody knows that on Aug. 23 we’ll be coming back with our DCC bylaw for consideration of adoption,” he said.
Gipps added he hopes those who may be impacted will take notice so that if they have an application pending they should get it going before Aug. 23.
“Because after that the new rates could apply.”
Applications that are in-stream have a grandfathering clause for a certain period of time, Gipps said.
Some DCCs are slated to go up by 78 per cent. DCCs are charged for new developments to help finance the cost of new or upgrading existing infrastructure.
A previous staff report to council recommends the uptick in charges include a Consumer Price Index CPI increase, adjusting annually, as well as regular reviews.
