Grindrod residents continue to have limited access to water.
Customers supplied by the Grindrod Water Utility are required to only use water for essential purposes.
A blocked water intake on Shuswap River forced the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) to put the restriction in place Tuesday, May 21 and it continues through the weekend.
Crews were able to bypass the river intake with a portable pump and in addition to a potable water hauler, bring the reservoir up to approximately 75 per cent overnight Thursday, May 23. Crews continued to pump water into the reservoir Friday.
BC Hydro is completing planned work on Sunday, May 26 which will cause a shutdown of the plant for approximately eight hours.
“Customers should store water for cooking, toilets, and cleaning prior to the shutdown,” the RDNO advises.
Crews will be monitoring and filling the reservoir throughout the weekend as necessary.
Divers will be on site early next week to make a second attempt to locate the intake and identify the issue.
“It is crucial that residents continue to only use water for essential purposes until otherwise notified,” RDNO said. “We thank customers for their continued patience.”
Grindrod customers are also still on a precautionary boil water notice from May 17.
The notice is in effect until sampling results confirm that the drinking water is safe.
“While water service to customers is being restored, you may experience some turbidity, which is normal. Please run the cold water in your bathtub and other taps and appliances until the water runs clear.”
