The City of West Kelowna announced it will be issuing a boil water notice for up to one week for customers in the Lakeview-Rose Valley System.

The notice will be effective starting on Tuesday, Sept. 8 until noon on Saturday, Sept. 12, and is required as crews continue to work on the Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant.

While the notice is in effect, the city is asking residents not to use water for outdoor watering to ensure there is enough water available for domestic uses.

The city said the construction is now at a point where it a 600 millimetre main will be tied in, which will eventually connect the Lakeview-Rose Valley System to the water treatment plant. The tie-in work will also reduce the amount of water available throughout the Lakeview0-Rose Valley System by 40 per cent.

“This proactive boil water notice is being issued because the works may result in untreated water entering the system,” the city said in a statement.

“Without the benefit of chlorine treatment, disinfection against microorganisms will not occur; and therefore, all users must use water brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute.”

A safe alternative water source is available for residents at the bulk filling station at Shannon Lake and Asquith Roads. Residents are asked to bring clean bottles for filling.
