The District of Peachland’s chief administrative officer (CAO) has resigned.

Joe Mitchell has been working for the district for the last 18 years in various capacities, finally becoming the CAO in 2019 after the former officer Elsie Lemke retired.

The district said he will remain in his current role until Aug. 25 for a smooth transition for whoever will take over next.

In a statement, the district said Mitchell is leaving for personal reasons.

“We are greatly saddened by the news. Joe’s contributions to the District of Peachland have been outstanding, including his time as Director of Operations for several years before becoming our CAO,” Mayor Cindy Fortin said in the statement.

“He has been instrumental in helping council achieve its many priorities, including our new water treatment plant, while supporting a professional team. We wish him well in his new endeavours. He will be missed by all.”

Mitchell said the decision to leave the district was not a decision he took lightly.

“This has been a difficult decision as working for the District of Peachland has been a rewarding experience,” he said.

“It has been an honour to work with mayor and council and especially the dedicated and professional team of staff.”

The district will post the details of the CAO position on its website and social media pages in the coming weeks.
