A vehicle fire near a power line in Summerland resulted in an unplanned power outage affecting a portion of the community on Oct. 15.

An RV fire on the shoulder of the road near the Pleasant View Motel, was directly underneath a power line, said Jeremy Storvold, director of utilities for Summerland.

“When we arrived on scene, it was blazing,” he said.

He added that the fire reduced the structural integrity of the power poll and resulted in a snapped line.

Municipal crews de-energized the line and then worked to rebuild it.

Their work began at 11:30 p.m. and finished around two and a half hours later, ahead of their expected time.

Because of the rain during the evening and night, the work process was slowed, but there were no issues with the repairs itself, Storvold said.
