Upcoming underground utility works will disrupt traffic for a bit in West Kelowna.
The city announced that on Friday (Oct. 22), single-lane alternating traffic will be effect at the intersection of Stevens, Bartley and Shannon Lake Roads from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Drivers heading north on Bartley Road to Shannon Lake Road from the highway or from Shannon Lake Road to Bartley Road should expect delays. The city is asking drivers who need this route to give themselves extra travel time.
“Drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians are advised to proceed through this intersection with caution,” city staff said in a statement.
The detour on Byland Road to Juliann Road will remain in place for drivers. Businesses in the area are open and will still be accessible. The contractor has installed digital signs along Highway 97 and Shannon Lake and Stevens Roads to help drivers navigate the corridor during the one-day traffic change.
The work in the area includes relocating overhead and underground utilities, as well as building a retaining wall and portions of the new roundabout.
“Construction is anticipated to continue through December 2021, subject to weather conditions and other factors.”
More information on the Shannon Lake roundabout is available through the city’s website.
