passed away on May 1st, 2008 in Kelowna, B.C. at the age of 80. Aimee was born on January 11th, 1928 in Lisieux, Sask., the 10th child of Philias and Marie-Anne Fortier. The family had lived in St. Isidore, Quebec and moved to Peace River in 1929. In Aimee’s family, type 1 diabetes took a great toll on 7 out of 10 siblings. Aimee graduated from St. Ann’s Academy and St. Joseph’s Hospital, School of Nursing in Victoria, BC in 1949. She worked as a nurse until she retired. Aimee was an active member of the Diabetes Association, an artist and avid water colorist and gardener. A devoted mother, she shouldered the responsibility of raising her nine children on her own. Predeceased by her husband William Atherley in 1980 and her 27 year old son Patrick Atherley, in 1991. Surviving are her daughters, Kathleen (Brian), Denyse (Paul), Christina and Mary-Anne; her sons Bill (Heather), Richard (Lynda), Michael (Deborah) and Gerald; 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and her brother Marcel. A Celebration of her Life will take place on Friday, May 9th, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Valleyview Funeral Home, 165 Valleyview Road, Kelowna. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.
