BETUZZI, CHARLES WILLIAM

It is with deep sadness that we

inform you of the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle Chuck (Charlie) Betuzzi on March 17, 2013 at Lakeview Lodge

in West Kelowna, BC.  He was

predeceased by his brother John (Emma) Betuzzi, and sisters Mary (Kay) Ongaro, Gene (Rigo) Biollo and Polly (Lacey) Fisher.  He is dearly remembered by his wife Merrie Betuzzi, his children Gail (Terry) Willner, Mark (Jennifer) Betuzzi, Larry (Vera)

Betuzzi, Jane (Gerry) Kyle, Connie (Bill) Osborne, Kevin (Fay) Betuzzi, Anne (Rob) Boyd, Chris (Suzanne) Betuzzi, Dana (Len) Kruiper, Tim (Cecile) Betuzzi, Paula (Michael) Betuzzi.  He was the proud grandfather to twenty-three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  He is survived by his sister Anna (Doug) Grant of Mount Vernon, WA and many nieces, nephews and friends.  He was born in

Summerland, BC on February 7, 1921.  He lived there until the mid 1950’s, playing trumpet for the Penticton Marching Band, helping his dad in the orchard, and attending school in Summerland.  During World War II he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, spending most of the time in Vulcan, AB as a flying officer.  Returning to Summerland he again worked in the family orchard, and played in the Summerland Marching Band.  Soon after returning from the air force he married Merrie.  This past September they celebrated their 65th anniversary.  In the mid fifties Chuck bought land in Lakeview Heights, planted an orchard and built a house, raising his family, working the orchard and usually having another job as well, such as working on the ferry or for the “roads” or driving a school bus.  He grew a large garden and participated in hunting and fishing, to supply his family with food.  Our Lady of Lourdes Church in West Kelowna was a big part of his life.  He was an active participant in the Knights of Columbus and helping with all the church

activities.  He also helped the West Kelowna Food Bank

for many years.  Dad spent many years as a volunteer

fireman in Lakeview Heights.

Chuck and Merrie lived in their home in Lakeview Heights until 2010.  They then moved to Westwood in West Kelowna and only recently moved to Lakeview Lodge. The family would like to extend thanks to both places for the wonderful care given.  Also thanks to Bayshore for the wonderful care aids that were sent to assist and be companions to Merrie and Chuck.  His many friends and relatives are invited to prayers on Monday, April 1, 2013 at 7:00 pm and a funeral mass at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 2, 2013.  Both will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes, 2547 Hebert Road, West

Kelowna, BC.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Chuck’s memory to Development and Peace, 1425 René-Lévesque Blvd West, 3rd Floor, Montreal, QC  H3G 1T7.
