FILICE, DAWN MARIE (NEE POWIS)

Dawn was born in Winnipeg Manitoba on March 18, 1964 to a young hockey family (Father Geoffery Powis – who passed away in 2001 and mother Lorna (Miller) Powis. Eighteen months later came a baby sister for Dawn - Kimberley.

Geoff's hockey career would take his little family thru-out the United States, until finally returning to

Canada in 1969, settling in Cranbrook. There, Dawn found her first great love, a young buckskin horse she named "Buck". Horses would remain a passion of Dawn's for her entire life.

In 1978, Dawn’s family moved to

Kelowna. It was in Kelowna where fate brought together Dawn and Frank Filice, the other great love of her life. They married in 1984. Today, their family includes daughters Christine, Lia (Kyle) and Lynnzi (Tyler), as well as

grandchildren Cj, Mackenzie, Jada, Ben and Ryan. Dawn is also survived by her mother Lorna (Jim), sister Kimberley (Lorne), a large extended family and many close friends.

In addition to her love of horses, she always had various other animal friends following close by her side. Dawn

deeply treasured her family and friends, but also took great pleasure in her music, art, motorcycles, antiques, and giving her husband a really good haircut!

In return, she left us with her great gifts of courage, creativity, love, loyalty and authenticity. If there was one thought she would leave us with, it would be ... take time to heal, and then, just like when you take a fall from your horse, you just “Cowboy up and keep moving forward!”

Dawn passed away on November 7, 2014 in Kelowna, BC. There will be a private celebration of Dawn’s life. The family asks that those wishing to honour Dawn’s memory do so with a gift to The Kelowna Hospice House. Also, take time to share a moment today with a loved one, and cherish that moment always.
