She will especially be missed by the eight great grandchildren she was so proud of; Breanna, Riley, Jessica, Jordan, Juliet, Cole, Molly and Lucy. She leaves her brother-in-law Maurice Wright, nephew Lorne (Joanne) Wright of Clearwater, BC and niece Donna (Charlie) Cox of Port Alberni, BC. Also left to mourn her passing are dear friends Elaine and “Lucy”, Donna, Ollie, Ann, Mary and Hilda. Edna was predeceased by her loving husband Walter in 1990, her parents William and Victoria Gruer and her sister Alma Wright. Edna was born September 20th , 1913 in Bladworth, Saskatchewan. Edna and her sister attended the small Pebble Beach Prairie School traveling to school in buggy and cutter. Edna was a life long member of the United Church. Edna worked on the family farm in Saskatchewan and also helped neighbors with their children and housework before moving and settling in Kelowna in 1937 with her Mother, Father and sister. The family resided in Okanagan Mission where Edna was employed as a nanny for the Dunlop and Renfrew families. She married Walter Hill of South Kelowna in June of 1939; they enjoyed 50 years of happiness and hard work together where they were orchardists. Our Mom was a wonderful cook and seamstress. She felt very fortunate that she could still read and crochet after suffering a dehabilitating stroke in 2000. She was a founding member of the South Kelowna Womanfolk. This group contributed to the community in many different ways. Many happy hours were spent making quilts and enjoying the wonderful friendship that grew in the group. Walter and Edna enjoyed traveling in their retirement years, also camping and fishing with their friends. Walter always grew a large garden of flowers and vegetables and Edna enjoyed preserving the reap of the crop for her family and friends. A full teapot was always ready at Edna’s home where everyone was welcome. We are happy Mom can now have a well deserved rest; we truly will miss her kindness and beautiful smile which she had for each and every one of us. A very large thank-you to friends and caregivers during all these difficult years and for the T.L.C. shown by the staff on Dogwood and Aberdeen Units at Cottonwoods Extended Care in Kelowna. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, March 14th, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at First United Church, 721 Bernard Avenue with Rev. Karen Medland officiating.
