ELGIN DUNCAN BELL

Died of lung cancer in Kelowna, BC, on November 21, 2014 at the age of 87. Lovingly remembered by his daughter Cathy Cook and her husband David, of Kelowna; grandson Travis Bell-Orr and his wife Jenny, of Calgary; and great grandson Clark Bell-Orr. Pre-deceased by his wife Gerry (Geraldine Hill) and son John Bell. Born in Medicine Hat, AB to a large pioneering family, he developed strong lifetime friendships; a love of the prairies, river systems, and the Cypress Hills; and a fascination with all things police and military. A Professional Landman, Elgin achieved a Degree in Geography from Athabasca University, a Degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo, and a combined post graduate Diploma in Environmental Assessment from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, ON. As a lifelong learner, He also enjoyed credit courses from multiple universities. He had a successful 50 year career in the Oil and Gas Industry, working with some incredible people and enjoying every facet of land management, exploration, and environmental assessment. Elgin believed in being active professionally and giving back to the community. He was President of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen and a Director of the American Association of Petroleum Landmen. He sat on the Interim Governing Authority of the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and subsequently on the Board of Governors. Also, active politically, he contributed to winning teams for the Progressive Conservatives, as Vice President of the Riding Association for the former Calgary South (Federal) and Vice President of the Riding Association for Calgary Glenmore (Provincial). Elgin will be greatly missed by family and friends for his integrity, sense of humour, positive outlook, and his amazing breadth of knowledge.At his request there will not be a funeral.
