Betty Swainson, or Betty John as she was known to many, passed away on December 31, 2017 in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. 

She was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on February 09, 1926.  She served in the WRENS as a dental assistant during the Second World War.  Later she helped her father John C. Davey in the early years of Co-Operative Hail Insurance Company in Regina and Winnipeg. 

She obtained her teaching certificate in 1964 and taught in elementary schools in North Bay, Ontario, Cold Lake, Alberta and Victoria, BC.  She moved to Westbank, BC in 1977 and taught at Lakeview Elementary School in West Kelowna, BC until she retired.

Betty was an avid duplicate bridge player and was awarded the rank of Life Master.

Betty was predeceased by her brother William (Bill) Davey and her husbands Roy Swainson and John John.  

She is survived by her sister Carol Anne Mason; sons David (Joan) and Stephen (Leslie), grandchildren Kristina, Erik, Pieter (Laura), Andrew, and William; great-grandchildren Carson, Karli, Aleah, Mylie, Lucy and Jesse; and nieces and nephews Tom, Megan, Patricia and John.

The family is grateful for the care given Betty at the Astoria Assisted Living Residence, where she resided for the last several years and also especially grateful for the care and consideration the staff of Nanaimo Regional General Hospital provided her and her family in her last week.
