July 29, 1931 – November 25, 2008. Passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family in Kelowna, B.C.  Deeply saddened by their loss are his sons, Ollie (Dawn), Peter (Joan), daughter Eeva (Mari), grandchildren Lauryn, Neal, Daniel, Wayan, Samuel, his long time companion Mary Lanston, and his former wife Irja-Liisa.  Erik was born in Lappa Jarri, Finland, the eldest of nine children and survived by his sister Helevi, brothers Martti, Matti, Antti, nephew Timo (Helena), and many nieces and nephews.  Erik and family immigrated to Canada in 1958, residing in Elliott Lake, Ont. until 1963, at which time he moved his family to North Vancouver, B.C.  Dad found his calling in life as a commercial fisherman and was active in the U.F.A.W.U. and Finlandia Club until his retirement at age 62.  He was an accomplished athlete in running and cross country skiing.  He realized a life long dream by carrying the Olympic Torch for the 1988 Winter Games.   He spent his final years in Winfield, B.C. enjoying golfing and bowling.  The family would like to thank the Dr.’s and nurses of 5B, K.G.H. and the Central Okanagan Hospice House for their loving care.  A memorial celebration will be held on December 6, 2008 at 2:00p.m. at the Lake Country Christian Center, 3110 Berry Rd. Lake Country, B.C. 250-766-0548.  In lieu of flowers, donations to The Okanagan Humane Society, 14651 Oyama Rd, Oyama, B.C. V4V 2C7 are greatly appreciated.
