Fern died peacefully on Monday February 17, 2014 at the Santuari Hospice in
Calgary following a long struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. Fern was born December 19, 1930 in Westlock, Alberta. She enjoyed a happy childhood with her parents CI and Dogni Ennis and older siblings Audrey and Allen. She moved to Kelowna in 1947 where she met Ron. They married in 1952. Fern loved dancing, travelling and gardening but the real passion of her life was her family. She created a loving home for Ron and their children, Debbie, Devray and Neil. Sunday dinner was the highlight of the week, with a great meal followed by one of her amazing pies. Later on, she lavished that same love and care on her grandchildren who were the light of her life. Fern is deeply missed by Ron, her loving husband, daughters Debbie (Mike) Stockdale and Devray (Gary) Lafferty, daughter-in-law Beverley Ivens (son Neil McKenzie, deceased), and grandchildren Lindsay (Sebastien Fallu) Stockdale, James Stockdale, Justin Lafferty, Rebecca Lafferty, Hannah McKenzie, brother-in-law Tom McKenzie and sister-in-law Theresa Ennis. Fern was also a favourite aunt and a great friend to many. The family wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Home Care Palliative Team and to the staff of the Santuari Hospice who made Fern’s last days comfortable with their compassionate and capable care for both Fern and her family. A Memorial Service will be held at the Rutland United Church in Kelowna on Saturday March 1, 2014 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
