beloved wife of Owen Patrick Palmer, daughter, sister, niece, aunt, great-aunt, cousin, neighbor, nursing classmate, and friend to all who crossed her path, passed away courageously on June 13, 2008, after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in Tofield, AB in 1938. Her father, John Maciborski of Kelowna predeceased her in 1979. She is survived by her mother, Anne Maciborski of Kelowna, brother Jim Maciborski (Joyce) of Sherwood Park, AB, three sisters, Eileen Cassidy of Kelowna, BC, Janet (Michael) Harach of Red Deer, AB, Bonnie (John) Penner of Abbotsford, BC. Also surviving are one uncle, Peter Ewasiuk of Kelowna, BC, and five aunts Sophie (John) Kahn of Scottsdale, AZ, Eva (Joe) Szydlowski, Alice Saruk, both of Edmonton, AB, Josephine Biricki of Trenton, NJ and Moya Sloan of Red Deer, AB. Dianne, a graduate of the Edmonton General School of Nursing, made an indelible impression on the patients she had in her care in Fort McMurray and Edmonton, and for the majority of her career, in Jasper, AB and Kamloops, BC. Her compassionate nature, gentle wisdom, intelligence and listening and counseling abilities extended to her friends and family. Numerous nieces and nephews considered Aunt Dianne their “second” or “surrogate mom.” Always thoughtful and loyal, Dianne kept close touch with many of her nursing and high school classmates and former neighbors. She made friends easily as is apparent in her capable, and loving servitude on the Welcoming Committee at St. Charles Garnier Parish and in her weekly Meditation Group. Dianne was a gracious hostess whose cooking and hospitality was a focal part of her generosity and kindly heart. Her life has overlapped the lives of countless neighbors and friends made in her earthly journey. To know Dianne well was to love her. Times shared with Dianne shall never be forgotten, she was a truly remarkable lady with a servant’s heart. She was respected and admired by relatives, neighbors and friends in turn. An avid reader, Dianne also loved her books, her flower and vegetable garden. A Prayer Service will be held for Dianne on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 7:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road. Mass of Christian Burial with celebrant, Father Wayne Pfliger, will be on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 10:30 am at St. Charles Garnier Parish, 3645 Benvoulin Road, Kelowna, BC . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Centre for the Southern Interior, 399 Royal Avenue, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 5L3 or the Central Okanagan Hospice Association, #202-1456 St. Paul Street, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 2E6.
