September 18, 1938 - December 16, 2021
Sadly Gord passed following complications after surgery with family members at his side.
Gord was born in Boisetown N.B. in the family home to Wilfred and Gwen Hunter. After graduation Gord started his career in banking and spent most of his career in Life Insurance, which led him to work and move across Canada, gathering many lifelong friends along the way. In Brandon he met his wife Joanne of 54 years. In 1975 he decided to move his family to Kelowna as he was tired of the Manitoba winters. On semi-retirement he worked at passenger screening at the Kelowna airport.
Gord had a positive outlook on life. He welcomed everyone and made them feel important. He always took time for a friendly chat with neighbours and strangers alike. While he lived in Montreal, he became a loyal Canadiens hockey fan. Guy Lafleur was his all-time hero. If the Canadien Old Timers were playing in town he would go to the pub for drinks, pictures and autographs with the team. Gord also loved golfing and took up skiing when he was in his 60's. He enjoyed skating and dancing and would often tap dance and listen to old time fiddle music. His passion for his Chevy truck and love of A&W will be fondly remembered.
Gord was very proud of his family. He is survived by his wife Joanne, daughter Suzanne (Sam) and son Kevin (Helen), grandchildren James, Danica and Weston. His siblings, all in New Brunswick: Noreen (Bev), Mac (Joanne), Winston (Rita), Roger (Wilma), Wilson (Liz), Linda, Keith (Barb), and Marjorie. Gord had many nieces and nephews whom he would try to see on his trips back home to the Miramichi.
No funeral by request, a celebration of life will be held in the summer. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the BC Cancer Society in his honor.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.valleyviewfuneralhome.com for the Hunter family.
