HAROLD (HAL) FRANCIS SHUGG - BCOM - GJ Nov. 12, 1925-July 20, 2009 After a courageous battle with cancer Hal passed away in the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission with his wife Mae and son Hal at his side. Survived by Mae his devoted wife and best friend of 59 years, daughters Janet and Anne, son Hal, 15 wonderful grandchildren and 5 2/3 great grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Margaret, brother Gordon and many nieces and nephews, stepsister Carol Postle and Merilyn Mollard. Predeceased by his mother Elsie, dad William and brother Bill. Hal was born and brought up in Kelowna. Joined the Canadian Army and served in the Signal Corps in England and Europe staying in the Militia for many years. He attended UBC and earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He joined the Hudson Bay Company and graduated with the Preparatory Merchandizing Course and a degree as a Graduate Jeweller. Hal joined the Bulova Watch Company as a Sales Representative in 1955 and earned many awards. With his wife Mae they formed a Jewellery Agency and enjoyed many happy years before retirement. He was a member of the BC Jewellery Travellers Association and served on the board for many years. He was a member of the North West Commercial Travelers and served on Provincial and National Boards. In 1982 through his direction the Travellors group raised $10,000 to purchase special equipment to test blood clotting problems in infants and children at the Children's Hospital in Vancouver. Hal was a great sportsman and played tennis, basketball, curling and golf. Bridge was one of his passions and we thank Friendship House and our Groups for a lot of great years. In his retirement years he was on the executive of the Seniors at Ledgeview. Hal was a wonderful Husband, Father and Grandfather and we will miss him so much but will be comforted with our memories of a very happy caring person. There will be a "celebration of Hal's life at the Sports Legacy Centre, Exhibition Park, 32470 Haida Drive, Abbotsford, August 9, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:30 pm. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Cancer Society in Hal's name would be appreciated.
