AMALIE Hein 1929-2009 Amalie Hein passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at the age of 79 years. Amie, as she liked to be called, was born in Ukraine and grew up there but as a young teenager was caught up in the turmoil of the Second World War and ended up in Germany with her mother, brother and sister. In 1950 she

immigrated to Hamilton, Ontario and made her way out west to Calgary where she met Ludwig Hein. They married on Dec. 14, 1953 and together embarked on a variety of business ventures in Medicine Hat and Calgary. Amie owned and operated a dress shop and was an excellent seamstress. In addition to providing support to the family

businesses, she raised three beautiful daughters, Rita (Basil), Ingrid (Alex) and Suzin. They meant the world to her and there was nothing she wouldn't do for them. She was happiest when surrounded by her daughters and their families. An outstanding cook, especially of German and Ukrainian dishes, she also possessed a magnificent green thumb. Just as she could not cook a bad meal, her house plants were plentiful and always green, and her garden vegetables were sweet and delicious. Amie was the heart of every family event and those memories are joyful and

everlasting. She will be sadly missed by her loving

husband of 55 years, Ludwig; her three daughters; brother, Herbert (Melvina); sister, Elaine (Jaap); grandchildren, Joshua, Becky and Alexandra; step-grandchildren, Julianna and Andrew; and nieces and nephews, Jessica, Jason, Barbara, Richard, Peter and Andy. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Friedrich and Luise, and brother, Libwin. The family would like to thank the staff at Spring Valley Care Centre for their kind and compassionate care during her last three months. Amie will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but we are comforted in the knowledge that she has found peace and will be always in our hearts. Viewing will be made available 1 hour prior to service. A Funeral Service will be held at Valleyview Funeral Home in Rutland, 165 Valleyview Road on Monday, September 21, 2009 at 10 A.M., followed by interment at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Valleyview Funeral Home, Honoured Provider of Dignity Memorial (250) 765-3147. Condolences can be made to the family at www.mem.com.
