James Cyril Pearce

November 4, 1934 - September 27, 2016

James was embraced in the love of his family when he peacefully left us September 27, 2016 to reunite with his son, Brian. He bravely faced and endured the grasp of Alzheimer’s disease in his last few years. He leaves behind his loving wife, Darlene of 59 years, daughter Linda (Kelly) Sendall, and daughter in law, Barb (Brian) Pearce and three cherished grand children Jenna, Jeffrey and Jazmyn; his brothers Dennis (Lynda), Reg (Marita), Larry and sister Pam (Luc); nieces and nephews Lorel, Tenniel, Lindsey, Aaron, Kieran, Jarrod, Wayne, Melissa, and Nathan as well as his many other relatives and friends who will miss his laugh and friendship. He was sadly predeceased by his son Brian Pearce. James was a kind, loving and generous man. We were blessed to have had such a good man in our lives.

James was born in Lamont, Alberta, the oldest of 5 children. At age 18 he became a foreman for the County of Strathcona road crew. In 1964 he moved his family to Kelowna when he and his father and partners purchased Hilltop Sand and Gravel.

He later owned his own construction companies. He enjoyed his work which took him all over BC building roads, bridges, railroad beds and other construction projects that contributed to the development of transportation and the logging industry in BC.

In Kelowna, he put in Okaview Road and brought in a water line from the lake that still provides for some orchards, vineyards, and homes on Barnaby Road. He was always thinking of how to fix or build things. In his spare time he enjoyed working on projects that included painting cars, helping to build a race car, rebuilding his own boat, and building his own home. He was a man with a big heart always ready to lend a hand.  He gave 110% to all he did and to his commitment to his family and friends.

Our hero has left us but will always be in our hearts to guide us until we meet again.

The family extend special thanks to the nurses, caregivers and staff in the Ethel Glen wing at Cottonwoods Care Facility. Always very kind and compassionate, they provided wonderful care and support to James and his family. Thanks also to Dr. Yarrow for his care over the past years.

As per James’ request there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the BC Alzheimer’s Society (www.alzheimer.ca) with preference to efforts in Kelowna. Condolences can be sent to the family
