James G. (Big Jim) Fisher

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Big Jim, of Kelowna BC, on October 24, 2017.

He shared many visits with friends and family before he ended his journey peacefully at Hospice House just a couple months shy of his 89th birthday.  In his final inning he said, ''I'm happy, I want my family to be happy, I've had a good life and I have a great family, what more could a guy ask for."

He will be deeply missed, remembered with laughter and smiles, and never forgotten.

Jim was born in Vancouver, BC, and also resided in Victoria and Kelowna. He spent many years on the road as a travelling salesman, making friends wherever he went. He loved to brag that he travelled over a million miles in BC without an accident ("except for the two moose...but that was their fault!")

He was a proud member of The Associated Canadian Travellers for 55 years, where he enjoyed attending conventions, serving his community, fundraising and his favorite activity, volunteering in the beer gardens.

After retirement, he found great joy in volunteering as a school crossing guard at Springvalley Middle School, greeting the kids and keeping them safe.

Everywhere he went someone knew Big Jim. He was known not only for his big stature, but also for his big heart and big laugh. Jim was an easygoing, friendly guy who loved to tell stories and make conversation. He had great memories of the many road trips and cruises he took with his wife Sandy.  His greatest joys were spending time with his family, whom he was very proud of, and watching baseball.

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Sandy, his children Barb (Gord), Linda, Craig (Carol), Tammy, Sue (Mike), grandchildren Alex, Sabrina, Garrett, Graham, Rachel, Ryan, Cody, Kyle and Tiana, his sisters Jean and Doreen (Bill), great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 1:00 pm - 4 pm at the German Canadian Harmony Club (upstairs) at 1696 Cary Rd in Kelowna.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Central Okanagan Hospice House, 2035 Ethel St, Kelowna, BC V1Y 2Z6, thank you.
