ACLAND, JOAN G.
April 24, 1916 – March 3, 2013
Joan died peacefullyat the age of
96 at Brookhaven Care Centre with family by her side. She is survived by her daughters Shona (John) Gates of Kelowan and Tianne (Lorne) Pringle of Oliver and sons Peter (Corinne) Acland of Kelowna and Tony (Kim) Acland of Okanagan Falls as well as 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Joan was born in Winnipeg and even though she lived in most of the provinces in Canada, including Northwest Territories, she considered the Okanagan her home. She married Doug Wilmot in 1944 and later married John Acland, who predeceased her in 1982. The years spent on the Twin Lakes and Don ranches in the southern Okanagan were the most enjoyable years of her life. In her golden years Joan lived with her daughter Shona and son-in-law John as well as four grandsons who adored their “Grams”. A stroke took her to Brookhaven for her final year. She was greatly loved by her family and her little dog “Joey” and will be sadly missed by all. A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Larry Bobyn whose dedication to Mum’s comfort was paramount. Also much gratitude to the dedicated staff at Brookhaven on the Spartan wing whose care for Mum was amazing and made us all feel at ease knowing she couldn’t have been in a better place. The family will have a
celebration of Joan’s life at 540 Gramiak Rd., Kelowna on April 6 at 4:00pm. All friends and family are welcome
to join us.
