John Albert Edward TIPPETT

John Albert Edward, at 91 peacefully passed away with his family at his side on August 8th, 2008. Many memories will be cherished by his loving children: June (Dale) of Kelowna; John of Saskatoon SK; Laura (Glen) of Anola, Man; Linda (Bob) of 100 Mile House and Ann (Rob) of Winnipeg. Also nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, and his loving sisters: Joan and Louise. Predeceased by wife Doris, brother Maurice, sister Jean. A long time resident of St. Vital in Winnipeg and a wonderful 33 years of retirement in Kelowna. John was with the Canadian Provost Army Corp overseas in WWII from October 1940, to February 1946. After the war John and Doris raised a loving family, he worked for Canada Post as a postal officer until retirement in 1975. A member of the Royal Canadian Legion #26 in Kelowna since 1975 and previously in Winnipeg legion. John had a passion for curling with the Kelowna Curling Club and they honored him by making him an Honorary Life Member in October 1997. An expert gardener and naturalist, John enjoyed many days, weeks, and years establishing a beautiful garden in Winnipeg and Kelowna. He passed on his green thumb and the love of gardening to his children and grandchildren. John and Doris traveled extensively in their retirement years and we can read the many stories of their trips over and over again. As were John's wishes cremation will take place and a private family service will be held where he was born on March 21, 1917 in Minnedosa, Manitoba at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that any donations be made in John's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society in Kelowna, BC . Special thanks for the kindness and care of Dr. Canning, Kelowna Cancer Group, Kelowna General Hospital, Palliative Home Care Nurses who gave John the best of care over the many days.
