It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving and caring father, dad and pops. Lovingly surrounded by family members, John Quincy Adams, born June 4, 1935 in St John (St Jean-sur-Richelieu) Quebec to John and Therese, passed away after succumbing to his battle with COPD and cancer on Wednesday September 17, 2014 at the age of 79 years. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Joyce and their four children John, Michael, Tony and Jennifer and spouses Louise, Brenda, Donna and Steve accordinly. Grandchildren Megan, Caitlyn, Mitchell, Derek, Breanne, Adam, Matthew and Noah, who were his pride and joy, are going to miss their grandpa, gramps, and papa. Dad grew up enjoying scouting in his home town which eventually lead to his first career in the Canadian military serving with the Royal Canadian Dragoons (RCD) and the Lord Strathcona Horse (LdSH), including being posted twice to West Germany and once to Cyprus with the United Nations Peacekeepers. Being military brats allowed us to enjoy traveling to West Germany where we "ruled" the Black Forest in the early 1970's, eventually coming back to Canada where we settled and grew up in Calgary. Dad then started his second career with the Alberta Liquor Control Board (ALCB) and upon his retirement he and mom headed to Kelowna to enjoy the good life after years of hard work and raising their family. A celebration of dad's life will be held by family and close friends at a later date at Elbow Falls in Kananaskis Country, Alberta where he surely will enjoy the view, as he always did. The family would like to express our greatest gratitude to all those friends of dad's who kept him busy and occupied with great conversation and debate especially over these last few months. We would also like to thank the highly dedicated team of nurses and doctors at the Kelowna General Hospital and Sindi Ahluwalia Hawkins Centre that all played a role in helping make the last days of his life as peacefully fulfilling as possible. In living memory of John Quincy Adams, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park in Calgary.
