died May 15, 2008 of cardiovascular disease and diabetes complications. Born September 2, 1929 in Rye, Sussex, UK, Joe grew up in England but lived most of his working life in Edmonton, AB finally as a Building Inspector with CMHC. He retired with his loving wife Betty, to Kelowna in 1987. Joe was a songbird and loved singing, especially when accompanied by Betty on the piano, both in Edmonton and in Kelowna. He loved the opportunity of traveling with the Tuneagers to many destinations including Ontario, Alberta and even to Hawaii to entertain many, many appreciating seniors. As an avid fisherman and proud golfer, once with a 2 handicap and 7 holes in one that included a trip prize to Hong Kong for he and for Betty; Joe truly celebrated life to the fullest. Joe was benevolent to many Churches that they attended, and loved sharing solos and hymns with his fellow Church parishioners. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Southerden, his son, Albert (Al) Southerden, wife Nancy, all of Kelowna, his brother William (Bill) Southerden and wife Evelyn of Rye, Sussex, UK. The memorial service celebrating Joe’s life will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 24 at Rutland United Church, 1370 Rutland Road N, with the Reverend Rick Potter, Pastor. Donations are to be directed to the Canadian Diabetes foundation or Heart and Stroke foundation in lieu of flowers, please. Arrangements are by First Memorial Tel.
