Mary Giesbrecht

November 2, 1939 – October 2, 2016

Mary Giesbrecht (nee Guenter) was born November 2, 1939 in Hague, SK. She was the fourth of eight children and grew up on the family farm near Hepburn, SK where she had a busy life filled with family, church, and school activities. In 1959 Mary married Peter Giesbrecht and they shared a life together for the next 57 years. In 1975 Mary and Peter sold their home and business and moved to Kelowna, BC with their two young children.

Mary’s love of gardening flourished in the mild Okanagan climate. Aside from the fresh fruit and vegetables she grew, Mary’s beautiful flower gardens were her particular pride and joy.

Mary was the mother to Grace (Bevan) Koch and Ivan (Joanne) whom she all loved deeply. Mary was also the proud grandmother to Emily (Kevin) Epp, Melissa, and Jeremy. Mary was predeceased by her parents Frank and Elizabeth Guenter and brother Alfred.

After a long and tenacious battle with cancer, Mary passed away peacefully on October 2, 2016. She was surrounded by her family and spent her final hours with them praying, reading the Bible, and listening to hymns.

Mary’s family would like to thank the staff at the Kelowna Cancer Clinic and the Central Okanagan Hospice House for their professional and compassionate care. As an avid gardener, Mary found tremendous enjoyment in the peaceful gardens of the hospice and her family would like to particularly thank the staff and volunteers who maintain this beautiful setting.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of God,

3705 Mission Springs Drive, Kelowna, BC at 2:00 pm Friday, October 7, 2016. Memorial donations may be made to the Central Okanagan Hospice House. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.springfieldfuneralhome.com, 250-860-7077.
