It is with a very heavy heart that we announce that Melvin Jones passed away suddenly on July 31, 2019 at the age of 88.
Mel was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on March 27th 1931. He is lovingly remembered by his children; Matthew of Kelowna; Peggy O'Brien of White Rock, BC. Special companion Evona Kitzke, brothers Cedric (Eleanor), Ernest, sisters Phyllis, Myrtle, Isabel of Sydney, Nova Scotia. Brother in-Law Ray Wald (Jean), Sister in-laws Adeline Frey, Jose Frey, Velma Fletcher. Many nieces and nephews.
Mel is predeceased by Leona, his loving wife of 52 years, in 2007, Son-in-law Dan O'Brien, parents John & Pearl, brother Don.
Mel lived a full life filled with many adventure travels, camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, canning and playing cards.
Mel had an entrepreneurial career. After working for many years at Canfor in Grande Prairie, Alberta he made the decision to move his family to Kelowna, where he owned Corbin's General Store then onto the restaurant business with the purchase of the Cavalier Restaurant. After a short retirement he moved to Mission, BC and purchased Panago Pizza Place. Mel entered into retirement in 1989 and took particular joy in assisting and helping his children with their businesses.
Mel's quiet manner spoke volumes about kindness, generosity & respect.
With the loss of Mel this has left a huge hole in the family and all those who loved him. He so enjoyed his time and laughs with all of you.
A Celebration of Mel's life will be held on Saturday, August 17th at 3p m at the residence of 493 Harrop Ave, Kelowna, BC with a BBQ to follow.
