Born in Saint-Polycarpe, QC., grew up in Lachine, QC., Eugénie passed away 26 days short of 100 years old in Kelowna, B.C. Eugénie joined the Royal Canadian Air Force/Women's Division in 1942. She worked as a teletypist and served in the 6 Bomber Command on several airfields in England. During the D-Day invasion, she worked 24 hours straight to keep Operations up- to-the-minute on developing events.
Born to Alicius and Clara Francœur and pre-deceased by 5 sisters and one brother. Pre-deceased by her husband Harold Turner, and 3 of her children, Valerie, Gregoire and Marc, along with one granddaughter. Survived by her 2 sons, Richard, and Lennard, 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren.
As a resident of Kelowna, B.C., Eugénie served as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and an honorary member of the Airforce Wing and Military Museum. She volunteered within the school district and senior homes each fall to celebrate veterans. Her close friend Stu Richardson (Royal Canadian Airforce) was by her side for 15 years and accompanied her on several occasions laying the wreath at the cenotaph on Remembrance Day.
A friend of hers from England summed it up quite well: "I was inspired every time I was with Frankie and loved to listen to her story. A true warrior and fighter to the last. Her life was one of service and we were honored that she came and served in England in WW 2. She stood tall in the face of family sadness and adversity and now she flies high. Free of pain and suffering. Well done good and faithful servant."
