July 15, 1922 - October 21, 2018
A man of few words, great integrity, ability to repair anything, a willingness to help anyone, and a positive influence on those whose lives he touched, our beloved husband, father, papa/grandpa lived a good, long life. He had a heart for God and never feared the day he would go to meet Him. Although it is a time for sorrow, it is also a time for us to give thanks and be grateful that he was part of our lives for so many years and that we will see him again. Born in Serath, Saskatchewan, he was a WWII veteran, spending most of his time in Canada and, near the end of the war, serving in The Netherlands where he made lifelong friends. He began work as a farmer; became a beloved teacher/ principal at Verdant Valley School near Drumheller; was a Commissionaire at the Royal Tyrrell Museum; and spent his later years volunteering at his church and the MCC Thrift Store in Kelowna. His pastimes included crossword, sudoku, and jigsaw puzzles and he spent years researching the Orthner, Huber, and Hubick family trees.
He was predeceased by his parents - Jacob and Elizabeth; infant son - Glen; brothers and their wives - Sieg & Viola, Alfred & Verna; and brothers- in-law - Edwin Huber and Jacob Lang.
Oswald is survived by Ethel, his loving wife of 64 years; children - Elaine Lewis (Darren, Meghan & fiance, Michael), Marlene Joachim (David, Andy & Brady), Collin (Laura Lee, Thomas & Alexander), and Brad (Allison, Justin & Lindsey); sisters- and brothers-in-law - Ruth Lang, Myrtle & Herb Bachler, Elmer & Eleanor Huber; nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at the church building at Westbourne Place, 823 - 64 Avenue NW, Calgary, Saturday, Oct. 27 at 3:30 pm. There will also be an informal gathering held at Trinity Baptist Church in Kelowna on Nov. 17 at 1:30 pm
