ARMSTRONG, RICHARD RAYMOND

Richard Raymond Armstrong (Army), age 69, of Kelowna passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 5th at

Kelowna General Hospital

surrounded by his family, wife Raymonde and his children Elisa and Phil.  Richard was born in Verdun, Quebec.

He moved to BC in 1968 and loved it.  “BC is for me!” he’d

always say.  Richard worked throughout BC as a member

of the Tunnel & Rock Workers Union, Local 168, on several heavy construction projects

including the Mica and Revelstoke dams and the Rogers Pass CPR tunnels.  In the last decade before his retirement he explored the province as a truck driver.  In the 1990s Richard became a Knight of Columbus, a brotherhood of volunteering he cherished.  He was a member of the

housing committee and served as chairman of the monthly church breakfast, but his true calling was selling charity

appeal tickets.  As a brother knight quoted, “He sold a

truckload of tickets.”  Richard enjoyed travelling and

Mexico held a special place in his heart.  In addition to

being a devoted husband and father, Richard was extremely personable, an animated and comical storyteller and always brought smiles to those around him.  Prayers will be recited at St. Pius X Church at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 13th, 2014.  For those who wish

to honour Richard’s life, please donate in his memory to

the Knights of Columbus 7359 Foundation, 002 – 1920 Richter St. V1Y 2N2, or to the KGH Foundation,

2268 Pandosy Street, Kelowna, BC V1Y 1T2.
