October 15, 2018
Our beloved mum and grandma, Lyn, passed in Kelowna on October 15, 2018. Shirley Lynette Ritchie (Hinton) was predeceased by her parents Margaret (nee McKenzie) and Bill Hinton, her husband Ken and her youngest son, Douglas. She is survived by her children Michael (Deb), Bruce (Deb), and Jo-Anne Ritchie (Blake Dean), daughter in law France Benoit, grandchildren William Dean (Ally), Jillian Dean (Dani), Spencer Dean, Mark Ritchie (Rianna), and Beth Ritchie and great grandchildren Lucas and Noah Ritchie and Olivia Dean.

Born in Cadomin, Alberta on June 4, 1932, Lyn was raised mostly in Regina before moving to Kelowna and graduating from KHS. She trained as a nurse at St Paul's Hospital in Vancouver. She met Ken at a Valentine's Skate Party at the Memorial Arena. Though busy with her work and family Lyn prioritized line dried sheets, homemade soups and jams, and recycling or reusing just about everything.

Lyn was tough - arthritis had already disfigured her hands by thirty, but she made alterations to the handles of her golf and tennis clubs and carried on as she always had. Lyn loved a swim in the lake, bridge club, having people over to the house, a glass of sherry, walks with friends, her church, and family. She received quality care through the years from the local medical community and luckily in these last years her wonderful care aids found the humour in her sharp wit.

A service in Lyn's memory will be held on Friday, October 26th at St Michaels and All Angels Anglican Cathedral, 608 Sutherland Avenue, at 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Arthritis Society, Camp Owaissi or the Cathedral's Community Cupboard Program.
