SHIRLEY MASON (NEE POLDON)
It is with deep regret we announce the passing of Shirley Mason in the early hours of March 18, 2012 at the age of 53. Peacefully, she moved to her next adventure from
Hospice House in Kelowna. She fought an incredible two year fight against serious liver disease and a quick
spreading cancer. She will be sorely missed.
Shirley was an insurance professional whose recent
proudest moment was the earning of her Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) designation and her work with Kelowna’s Encompass Benefits and HR Solutions Inc. She was a woman of integrity, great humour and intelligence. On our numerous day and overnight road trips, Shirley was
constantly viewing the countryside for a better photo image. Some of her best work was of the birds which terrified her so. She also loved our vacations on Maui where she
reluctantly learned how to snorkel.
Survived by her husband, Ken Mason, her sons Brad (Whitehorse, YT) and Chris Milligan (Vancouver, BC), grandsons Curtis and Taylor Milligan, mother Mary Poldon (Toronto), sister Lorraine Andrews (Toronto), and brother Robert Poldon (Toronto), Shirley also leaves behind nieces, nephews, an aunt and uncle, and numerous friends across Canada.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at Seymour Golf and Country Club, 3723 Mount Seymour Parkway, North Vancouver, BC V7G 1C1 on the 19th of April 2012 between the hours of 2 and 5 Pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley’s name will be greatly appreciated at the BC Cancer Agency, Canadian Liver Foundation and Kelowna Hospice Society.
