On January 1, 1924, Steve TYPUSIAK commenced his life-journey in Pasieczna, Ukraine. As a teen-ager, he was forced by an invading army to travel into Russia and eastern-block countries to fight in the war. He escaped from a prisoner-of war camp to the mountain farms of Austria and later to an allied forces camp in Italy. In 1948, he arrived in Halifax. He made his way across Canada working in gold mines in Ontario, railway camps in the Rockies, and diners in Winnipeg. In 1950, he travelled to Trail B.C. to work in the smelter. In 1954, he moved to Oliver where his children were raised. He moved in 1981 to Kelowna, where his life- journey ended suddenly on January 5, 2009. Steve is survived by his children Rick (Noelle), Gloria (Wayne), Rob (Sandra), Randal (Nina), and Barb (Ray) and his grandchildren Steven, Tara, Stacey, Michael, Nicole, Olivia, Lane, Trevor, Grace, and Jamie. He is also survived by his dear friends Larry and Lise of Kelowna. Arrangements for Steves final journey are through the First Memorial Funeral Services in Kelowna. He requested that there not be a formal service. His family and very close friends will together celebrate his legacy when the flowers bloom in the spring.
